Marked Tree Vineyard

Marked Tree Vineyard is located on the Eastern Continental Divide between Mt. Pisgah and Tryon Peak in Flat Rock, North Carolina, in the AVA Crest of the Blue Ridge, Henderson County.

2024 will be our eighth vintage.

The winery is collecting a library of wines that can tell a story without words …but you know we like to talk.

The Gruner, for example, has been one of our biggest challenges. Each year we have made changes in the vineyard and the winery, opening the canopy, thinning the clusters, and calculating the BRIX. Each vintage has been different: pushing, moving towards our goal of the highest quality and expression of Gruner.

The Chardonel, on the other hand, has been one of our best grapes in the vineyard- beautiful, bright acidity with large gold clusters. This past vintage the Chardonel block was chock full. Jason had to prop up the trellis to keep it from collapsing. Harvest morning... " Hey Justin, we are going to bring the Chardonel down. How do you want it?" Justin, "Bring it on down! We are ready for your ..five tons?" Lance, "Um, we have 11 and will be right down!" The plan had to change. Justin processed the grapes and let them sit. The grapes soaked on their skins while tanks and barrels were prepared and emptied for the astounding harvest.

The 24 hours of exposure to the skins was a happy accident and now best practice.

At the end of the blind judging for the NC Fine Wines Competition, each of the ten of our wines entered into the contest won a medal.

We are all here for the wine.

We also have a satellite tasting room, The Grape, in Downtown Asheville!

Whether you are sipping wine on the Continental Divide or tasting wines by the ghost house, a marked tree is about finding your path. Marked Tree is a point along the road, a moment to reflect, a marker in life.
